Campground Fire Blamed on Fireworks

Illegal fireworks that started a quarter-acre grass fire at a Lake Casitas campground Thursday afternoon sparked a warning by Ventura County fire officials.

With less than a month until Independence Day, Ventura County fire dispatcher Charles Carranza told residents to be careful with fireworks.

“Fireworks can be dangerous because they can ignite grass and shake roofs, which are very flammable,” Carranza said.

The 2 p.m. fire started about a mile beyond the Lake Casitas main gate on California 150, Carranza said.
