Firefighters Control Blaze in Lynn Ranch

Ventura County firefighters quickly reined in a small brush fire in Lynn Ranch near Thousand Oaks on Thursday, keeping the blaze to two acres--and away from the neighborhood’s pricey homes.

More than 60 firefighters and two helicopter units descended on the quiet intersection of Calle Pecos and Calle Trancas about 1:15 p.m. after reports of a spreading fire on the adjacent hillside. The unincorporated Lynn Ranch neighborhood, which lies just north of Hillcrest Drive and Lynn Road, is completely surrounded by Thousand Oaks.

The fire reached the side of Calle Pecos, but firefighters extinguished the flames by 3:30 p.m., according to Ventura County Fire Department dispatcher Jackie Noel. The cause of the fire was still under investigation late Thursday afternoon.

“It was pretty much contained right away when it hit the street, because there was no wind and this area has a weed abatement ordinance,” said Battalion Chief Al Wilsey. “Our biggest problem was cutting off northward movement, because some of those houses have wood-shake roofs.”

Thursday’s fire was the second small blaze in Thousand Oaks this week. On Tuesday, a 25-acre fire that investigators are blaming on arson blackened part of Wildwood Canyon Park, but did not damage any of the nearby houses.
