Plane Crashes in Big Bear Lake; 2 Killed
An elderly couple was killed and the pilot critically injured Thursday when their single-engine airplane crashed shortly after takeoff from Big Bear City Airport, authorities said.
The Piper 250 Comanche lost power and was trying to return to the airport when it plunged into shallow water on the eastern edge of Big Bear Lake, said Yomar Cleary, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
The couple was not identified, pending notification of relatives.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, Cleary said.
