Bullfrogs Tie It in Final Seconds, Win in Shootout

The Bullfrogs continued their winning streak with a 7-6 victory over the Oakland Skates in a Roller Hockey International game Friday in front of 1,873 at the Henry J. Kaiser Arena in Oakland.

A goal by Anaheim’s Savo Mitovic tied the score with five seconds left in regulation and the Bullfrogs were perfect in the shootout to move into first in the Northwest Division.

Todd Wetzel and Victor Gervais scored in the first quarter to give the Bullfrogs a 2-0 lead. Anaheim made it 3-0 four minutes into the second quarter on rookie Mark Stitt’s first goal of the season.

But the Skates’ Kim Maier scored twice to close the gap to 3-2 at the half. Oakland continued the momentum in the second half, taking a 5-3 advantage midway through the third quarter.

Stitt’s second goal, coming late in the third quarter, trimmed Oakland’s lead to one and Darren Perkins’ fifth goal of the season tied the score, 5-5, 1:07 into the fourth quarter. Maier scored Oakland’s final goal on a power play with 4:36 left in the game.

The Bullfrogs improved to 4-1 and the Skates are 1-3.
