Police Seeking Two Suspects in Attack on Man and Woman

Investigators were searching for two men suspected of shooting a man in the head and then stabbing him and a woman in the torso, police said Monday.

Witnesses told authorities they heard an argument followed by several gunshots about 10 p.m. Sunday in the 800 block of West Fletcher Avenue and called police, who found Robert James Ward, 23, and Lisa Marie Marco, 22, lying in front of a condominium.

Ward had been shot and stabbed several times while Marco had suffered stab wounds and blunt force trauma to her torso, Lt. Ed Tunstall said. Both were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where Ward was listed in critical condition and Marco remained in stable condition Monday.

Authorities suspect the assailants were two men who fled the scene in a dark-colored truck. One of them was identified as 22-year-old Manny Martinez of Orange. He was described by police as Latino, 5 feet 10 inches tall, of medium build and with short hair. The second suspect was described only as white and about 22 years old.
