Corona del Mar Promotes Griffith to Head Coach

Stacy Griffith, an assistant girls’ basketball coach at Corona del Mar High for two seasons, was promoted to head coach, the school announced Friday.

Griffith will coach the team in place of Garth Flint, who is taking a one-year leave of absence, Athletic Director Jerry Jelnick said. The Sea Kings were 17-10 last season and finished fourth in the Sea View League.

Jeremy Booth, an all-conference first baseman at Cypress College, has signed with New Mexico State, Cypress Coach Scott Pickler said.

Booth batted .358 with 13 home runs and 51 runs batted in during his sophomore season. Booth was selected first-team All-Orange Empire Conference.

Marcus Fernandez, Matt Montoya, Tyler Theslof and Oliver Zlomislic have signed with the UC Irvine men’s soccer team, the school announced.

Fernandez and Zlomislic, defenders, were teammates at Arcadia High. They were selected first-team All-Pacific League as seniors and Zlomislic was the league MVP. Montoya, a forward from Long Beach Millikan High, was selected first-team All-Moore League. Theslof, a midfielder, was selected all-state in Ohio.
