Hayes Takes Post at Valencia

Greg Hayes, who resigned in April as Canyon High boys’ basketball coach after 14 seasons, has accepted the position of girls’ varsity coach at Valencia High.

Hayes compiled a 180-160 record at Canyon, leading the Cowboys to Golden League titles in 1986 and 1987.

Hayes replaces Dennis Mifflin, who resigned to concentrate on coaching baseball.

Last season, its first at the varsity level, Valencia was 6-17, 0-10 in the Foothill League.

Baseball

Outfielder Joe Borchard of Camarillo High, catcher Chris Parker of Westlake and first baseman David Sark of Chatsworth have made the 805 Area Code team.

Pitchers Bobby Graves of Hart, Justin Ames of Moorpark, Sean Douglass of Antelope Valley and Matt Rainer of Royal are on the squad pending the cut of one more pitcher.

Basketball

Jody Anton has been hired as an assistant coach for the Pepperdine women’s team.

Dyan Miller was named women’s coach at Glendale College.

Cross-Country

Melissa Seale has been hired as women’s coach at Glendale College.

Miscellany

Jim Couch, athletic director at Bell-Jeff High since 1980, has relinquished half of his duties to Jess Rodriguez.

Couch will remain as the girls’ athletic director.
