Clippers Deny Trade in Works

An NBA source denied a published report that the Clippers are trying to acquire All-Star forward Larry Johnson from the Charlotte Hornets.
The Charlotte Observer reported in Tuesday’s editions that the Hornets are trying to trade Johnson, due to earn $71 million over the next nine seasons, to the Clippers for forwards Loy Vaught and Rodney Rogers. Johnson has a trade clause in his contract that pays him 15% of the remaining contract value.
The deal wouldn’t work because of the salary cap. Vaught and Rogers are due to make a combined $5.28 million and Johnson is due to make $4.4 million.
The Clippers declined comment.
