Prison Bound
Four Conejo Valley teenagers are scheduled to get the news today in a Malibu courtroom: life sentences, possibly, for murdering a 16-year-old Agoura Hills youth (B1). Jimmy Farris, the son of a Los Angeles police officer, was defending a friend in a backyard fort when attacked by the teenagers and stabbed. The boys were struggling over a small amount of marijuana. A jury on May 28 convicted the four, who range in age from 16 to 19 and include a pair of brothers.
Beach Hogs
They rumbled into town Sunday like a leather-clad army, swarms of Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiasts converging on Ventura State Beach to raise money for disabled kids (B1). Beach Ride ’96 drew bikers and their hogs from all along the California coast, including members of clubs such as the Hells Angels, Bagos, Religious Riders and Rich Urban Bikers.
Stay Home
Anyone who has returned to Ventura County from a weekend trip north knows the subtle pleasures of broiling away a Sunday afternoon on the clogged freeway in Santa Barbara. If the road were only wider, it might not back up with traffic every week. Well, the folks over at Caltrans feel your pain. They just can’t do anything about it (Street Smart, B1).
