Two teenagers were killed and another was seriously injured in a three-car accident--the result of a drag race on the San Diego Freeway that reached speeds of 100 mph, according to Sgt. Mark Worthington of the California Highway Patrol.

John Munzon, 18, and Louie Camus, 17, both of Long Beach, died after Munzon lost control of their 1993 Honda Civic while driving south on the San Diego Freeway near Brookhurst Street around 10 p.m. Friday, Worthington said.

The vehicle slammed into the center divider and was struck from behind by the car it was allegedly racing, a 1994 Honda Accord, Worthington said.

Munzon, who suffered major injuries, died shortly after arriving at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. Camus was ejected from the car and died at the scene, authorities said.

The front-seat passenger of the second vehicle, 19-year-old Jerome Pacion of Lakewood, suffered major injuries in the crash. He is in intensive care at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.

The 16-year-old driver of the second vehicle, whose name was withheld because he might be charged and is a minor, apparently was not injured. A third passenger, a 19-year-old Long Beach man, was unharmed by the crash, authorities said.

Debris from the two-car collision caused a third car, not involved in the race, to crash, authorities said. However, none of the four teenagers in the 1990 Volkswagen suffered serious injuries.

There was no evidence of alcohol or drug use, authorities said.
