Police arrested a 17-year-old Port Hueneme youth Wednesday on suspicion of hitting another boy with his station wagon and then fleeing.

Tony Salas, 17, remains in serious condition at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard after he was hit and dragged by a car late Tuesday in the 600 block of Sun Fish Way in Port Hueneme, authorities said.

Salas and the suspect reportedly were both fleeing a fight that erupted at a nearby party about 11:45 p.m. when the suspect’s car hit Salas, who was running on foot, Port Hueneme Sgt. Jerry Beck said.

Salas “was smacked pretty bad and dragged quite a way,” Beck said. “He had a tattoo on his arm that is no longer there. . . . He was dragged that far.”

Police said the suspect allegedly panicked after hitting Salas and fled. After interviewing witnesses, police arrested the suspect at 5:45 a.m. at his home, officials said. The youth, who was not identified because of his age, was booked for felony hit and run in juvenile hall before being released to his parents, Beck said.
