Citrus Fest, ‘First Sunday’ Combine

Santa Paula’s 29th annual Citrus Festival will combine with the recently inaugurated First Sunday in Santa Paula event in an effort to lure visitors to the Santa Clara Valley.

About 3,000 people are expected to gather at 10 a.m. today to watch 50 parade entries trundle down Main Street between 7th and 11th streets.

New this year is the chamber’s old-fashioned trolley and an unprecedented five color guards, said parade organizer Gene Marzec.

“If they all show up, we’re going to have more flags going by than we know what to do with,” he said.

The festival, which will include a carnival, music, food and games, will run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. today and 1 to 10 p.m. Sunday at Veterans Memorial Park at 10th and Ventura streets.

On Sunday, the Old Country Trio Plus One will play country, folk and bluegrass at the Santa Paula Oil Museum park, the airport will conduct tours of antique airplanes and a barbecue will be held at the Santa Paula Depot.
