Kenny of Westlake High Signs to Pitch at Nevada

Pitcher Jay Kenny from Westlake High has signed with the University of Nevada. Kenny is 9-0 with a 1.61 earned-run average for the Westlake-Royal Oak American Legion team this summer.

Motor Racing

Midget driver Jay Drake of Val Verde finished third in the Mid-Summer Nationals at Sioux Falls, S.D.

Corey Kruseman of Ventura finished seventh in the race and Simi Valley’s Scott Olsen took ninth.

Drake leads the Western States Midget standings with 695 points, nine points ahead of Phoenix’s Billy Boat.

Volleyball

Channel Islands High setter Junior Mosones has signed with Cal State Northridge. Mosones, who will be a freshman, was named most valuable player in the Marmonte League last season.

Thousand Oaks High middle blocker Jenn Detmer has committed to Stanford.
