Alomar and Murray Pace the Orioles, 9-4

Roberto Alomar and Eddie Murray each had three hits Saturday as Baltimore ended a 10-game losing streak at Cleveland with a 9-4 victory over the Indians.

Brady Anderson and Bobby Bonilla homered for Baltimore, which has won four of its last five games.

“This could be the start of a good drive, but only if we go out and play the way we are capable,” Alomar said.

Baltimore took a 4-0 lead off Chad Ogea (5-3) in the second inning on three singles, a walk and Alomar’s three-run double.

Jesse Orosco (3-1), the third of four Oriole pitchers, retired all six batters he faced to earn the win.

Milwaukee 7, Oakland 0--Ricky Bones, making his first start in three weeks after being moved to the bullpen, gave up four hits in eight innings to lead the Brewers at Oakland.

Bones (7-11), who had not won a game since June 25 at Kansas City, made six appearances in relief, going 0-0 with a 1.64 earned-run average in 11 innings. On Saturday, he struck out six, walked two and didn’t allow a runner past second base.

Matt Mieske had an RBI double in the fourth and cleared the bases with a triple in the eighth.

Boston 6-0, Minnesota 3-6--Minnesota’s Scott Aldred pitched seven shutout innings as the Twins beat the Red Sox at Boston for a split of their day-night doubleheader.

In the opener, rookie shortstop Tony Rodriguez got his first major-league extra-base hit, a two-run double, and Aaron Sele pitched seven strong innings to lead the Red Sox.

Aldred (5-7), released by Detroit on May 28 after going 0-4 with a 9.35 ERA, posted his fifth victory in eight decisions since joining the Twins.

Detroit 6, Seattle 3--Brad Ausmus’s three-run homer with one out in the ninth inning lifted the Tigers at Detroit, extending their winning streak to six games.

Ausmus hit his second homer of the season off Norm Charlton (2-5) after one-out infield singles by Tony Clark and Phil Nevin.

The Mariners had tied it, 3-3, in the top of ninth on pinch-hitter Brian Hunter’s two-run homer.

Kansas City 11, New York 4--Johnny Damon and Mike Macfarlane drove in two runs apiece during a seven-run fourth inning that lifted the Royals at Kansas City.

David Howard had three hits and Jose Offerman added two hits and scored three runs.

The Royals batted around in the fourth--their highest-scoring inning this season.

Doug Linton (5-6) gave up five hits in working seven innings for the second time this season.

Chicago 11, Texas 9--Ozzie Guillen singled home the go-ahead run in the ninth inning as the White Sox won at Arlington, Tex..

Texas trailed, 8-2, before tying the score with six runs in the seventh. Ray Durham hit his ninth homer to give Chicago a 9-8 lead against Ed Vosberg in the eighth, but Mickey Tettleton’s RBI single tied the score in the bottom of the inning.

Then in the ninth, Lyle Mouton singled off Jeff Russell (3-2) with one out, Ron Karkovice singled and Guillen hit Mike Stanton’s first pitch up the middle for a 10-9 lead. Durham followed with a run-scoring single.
