Cooler Weather Will Linger Until Midweek

Light morning fog and cooler weather will continue until at least Wednesday in the San Fernando Valley. But then the unseasonable break from summer weather will be over.

Temperatures are predicted to climb back into the 90s later in the week.

“It looks like there will be more of a warming trend after Wednesday,” said Rob Krohn, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

In the past few days the Valley has experienced rare relief from the typical August heat, with high temperatures topping off in the 80s.

A low-pressure system passing through the area allowed the marine layer--a band of cool, wet coastal air--to move into the Valley, bringing low clouds and morning fog, Krohn said.

That has kept temperatures down, but as a high-pressure system moves into the Valley on Thursday, skies will clear and the air will get hotter.

But Krohn said weather forecasters are not expecting record-breaking heat.

“Maybe by Saturday, places like Woodland Hills could be flirting with temperatures near 100 degrees,” he said.

Meanwhile, the high temperatures for today are expected to be 89 in Woodland Hills, 85 in Burbank and 86 for Northridge and Van Nuys.
