Scratched Cornea Knocks Out Lemke

Atlanta Brave second baseman Mark Lemke will sit out several games because of a scratched cornea in his right eye.

Lemke removed himself from the lineup Friday night after failing to see a line drive by Colorado Rocky catcher Jeff Reed whiz by him in the second inning.

He snared a grounder that he admitted was “just a blur I happened to stay in front of,” but left the game for pinch-hitter Rafael Belliard.

Lemke was replaced by Mike Mordecai for Saturday afternoon’s game against the Rockies.

The Philadelphia Phillies put pitchers Mike Mimbs and Bobby Munoz on the disabled list. Mimbs, who is suffering from a sore left shoulder, was 1-7 this year with a 5.80 earned-run average in 16 appearances (12 starts), spanning 71 1/3 innings. He spent the majority of June at triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Munoz sat out most of last season after right elbow surgery and didn’t join the Phillies this season until June 11. He made two starts, went back on the disabled list for more than a month and then made four more starts. He is 0-3 with a 7.82 ERA, covering 25 1/3 innings.
