Obituaries : Vincent A. Friedrich; Farmer, Oxnard Native

Vincent A. Friedrich of Camarillo, a farmer and third-generation native of Oxnard, died Aug. 25 in an Oxnard hospital after a long illness. He was 86.

Friedrich was born March 22, 1910, in Oxnard and lived in Ventura County his entire life. Born of a pioneering family, Friedrich was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Institute and Oxnard High School.

He was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Camarillo, the Knights of Columbus and the Ventura County Farm Bureau.

Friedrich was one of the first recipients of the Medal of Valor in 1974 from the city of Oxnard. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Frances “Viv” Friedrich, in 1989, and his brother, Ignatius, in 1993.

Friedrich is survived by five daughters, Ellen Devericks of Santa Paula, Barbara Friedrich of Santa Barbara, Patty Douglas of Camarillo, Betty Dempsey of Redding and Jeanne Myers of Somis; one brother, Alfred Friedrich of Salinas; one sister, Gertrude Becker of Oxnard; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services were held Friday at St. Mary Magdalen Church with interment at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard.
