Buena Park Pastor
Pastor Wiley S. Drake of the First Southern Baptist Church deserves applause for his work with the homeless and admiration for his moral courage in defying the Buena Park city officials. So far, so good. But asking his congregation to pray for the council’s eternal damnation (Sept. 3) is unacceptable behavior for the clergy. Would it not be more “Christian” to pray for cooperation between the church and the city to address the concerns of both the homeless and the community? Maybe the pastor needs a reminder that the message is “faith, hope and charity,” not “charity and vindic- tiveness.”
