OUTLOOK
Mater Dei will contend with Capistrano Valley for the league title and the top spot in the county. The Monarchs’ biggest loss from graduation was Brad Williams, an offensive and defensive lineman who was the league’s most valuable player last season. There might not be a better pair of wide receivers in the state, however, than Perry and Castleton. Stremick returns at quarterback after passing for 1,572 yards and 13 touchdowns last season and earning second-team all-league honors. Farley also returns at running back, where he was a first-team all-league selection last season after rushing for 876 yards. McNair should be another big-time player at fullback. The defense is less experienced than the offense, but what it lacks in experience it should make up for in talent. Hewitson, Manibusan and McNair should be the leaders.
