A Winnetka man was sentenced to 120 days in jail after pleading no contest to attacking a woman with whom he was living, the city attorney’s office said.

Ruben Sierra, 35, was sentenced late Tuesday by Van Nuys Municipal Judge Alan Ellis after Sierra entered a no-contest plea to one count of spousal battery.

In addition to the jail time, Sierra was placed on three years’ probation, ordered to undergo a year of domestic violence counseling and forbidden from annoying, harassing or molesting the 28-year-old victim.

The sentencing grew out of an incident that occurred early last Sunday when police from the LAPD West Valley station responded to a call of a possible assault. When they arrived at the victim’s apartment, police found the victim with scratches on her neck and forearm. The victim told officers that Sierra had been drinking and attacked her for no apparent reason, said City Atty. James K. Hahn.
