The California Beach Party longboard surfing contest, beach volleyball tournament, 1K walk and 10K and 5K runs will take place this weekend at Surfer’s Point in Ventura.

Today and Sunday, surfing begins at 6:30 a.m. and volleyball begins at 9 a.m.

Running and walking events are at 8 a.m. Sunday.

Surfer’s Point is near California Street and the county fairgrounds.

Neighbors for a half-century, North Hollywood and Harvard-Westlake highs have never met on the football field. That will change today, when North Hollywood travels a few blocks to Harvard-Westlake for a 1:30 game.

“We’ve tried to play them in the past. We just couldn’t put it together,” said Gary Thran, Harvard-Westlake athletic director and former coach.

Said Harvard-Westlake Coach Dave Bennett: “I guess it’ll be The Battle of North Hollywood.”

Small problem there.

Harvard-Westlake is in Studio City, although the school’s mailing address is in North Hollywood.

High school events in the region include:

Cross Country: At 8 a.m., Ojai Invitational at Lake Casitas; Littlerock Invitational at Pearblossom Park.

Girls’ Volleyball: At 8 a.m., Calabasas tournament at Calabasas High.

College events in the region include:

Men’s Soccer: At 7 p.m., Texas Pan-American at Cal State Northridge.
