Brush Fire Put Out in Lang Ranch Area
Moist air and light winds aided firefighters Monday afternoon in quickly quashing a seven-acre brush fire in the Lang Ranch section of Thousand Oaks.
No structures were threatened and no one was injured in the blaze, which began at 2:30 p.m., County Fire Department Capt. Kelly Richeson said.
Richeson credited the department’s weed abatement program--in which homeowners chop down dry, brittle brush--with eliminating any threat to structures.
The fire was fueled by wild grasses and light brush on a hillside near the intersection of Westlake Boulevard and Avenida de los Arboles. About 50 firefighters in 10 engines, two helicopters and one bulldozer put the fire out in about an hour.
“We had one fire investigator on scene and he made a quick determination that it was . . . an accidental fire,” Richeson said. “It was definitely not arson.”
The fire started when the metal blades of a tractor mower struck a rock, causing sparks to fly, the fire investigator said.
