There’s no quicker way to beat a running team than to score quickly.

Using its passing game to sprint to a 14-0 first-quarter lead, Kennedy High was able to stay ahead of North Hollywood’s slower, ground-based attack for a 56-19 victory at North Hollywood on Friday.

The Golden Cougars’ quarterback, Calvin Zinck, had played poorly in his first two games but finally found the golden touch, completing 12 of 16 passes for 255 yards and five touchdowns.

“I just went back, stepped up and threw the ball,” Zinck said. “And it was open all night.”

Zinck didn’t waste any time, completing nine of his first 14 passes and connecting with Aaron Lewis for touchdowns of 30, 15 and 13 yards, all in the first half. The Golden Cougars (1-2) scored on all four of their possessions before halftime.

Jaret Harris carried 15 times for 229 yards and three touchdowns for Kennedy. North Hollywood’s Dante Clay had 124 yards and two touchdowns.
