Foothill Rolls Up 409 Yards, Beats Marina

Foothill rolled up 409 yards in total offense Friday and defeated a tenacious Marina team, 27-12, Friday at Westminster High.

The Knights (3-2) built a 12-6 halftime lead Tyler Lang threw touchdown passes to Lawrence Mariner (25 yards) and Matt Hall (27 yards). The go-ahead touchdown came in bizarre fashion. On fourth down at the Viking 27, Lang saw the snap fly over his head. He chased it down at midfield, scrambled up the sideline, and launched a touchdown pass to Hall.

Foothill upped the lead to 20-6 with 9:56 left in the game, as Franklin Haynes scooted 20 yards for a score. Haynes had carries for 20 and 24 yards earlier in that drive to help set up the score and gained 166 yards on the night.

Marina narrowed the gap to 20-12 when Scott Austin hooked up with Arthur Odden from 20 yards, but the Knights answered quickly as Chad Concolino caught a Lang pass in the flat and cut through the defense to create a 65-yard scoring play. Lang finished with 214 yards passing.

“It was hard, a real struggle,” Foothill Coach Tom Meiss said. “We didn’t mesh well early and it was frustrating.”

“That young kid of theirs [Austin] is one of the best I’ve seen,” Meiss added. “He showed us our weaknesses in the secondary.”
