Iabichella Bolts From Paraclete

Sal Iabichella, Paraclete High’s leading rusher, has quit the football team and left the school, Spirits Coach Steve Haggerty said.

Iabichella, a senior who rushed for 527 yards and seven touchdowns in four games, turned in his equipment last week, citing personal reasons and family problems, Haggerty said.

Iabichella has enrolled at Quartz Hill High, Haggerty said, but Quartz Hill players said Tuesday he hasn’t shown up at practice.

Limping along: Monroe tailback Vinny Walker is questionable for Friday’s game against Grant.

Walker, who leads area City Section backs with 858 yards in 121 carries, suffered a sprained right ankle in last week’s 30-6 loss to North Hollywood.

“If it had been closer, we might have brought him back,” Monroe Coach Don Senegal said. “But we’ve got a whole season left.”

Senegal said Walker’s chances of playing Friday were about 40%.

Lighter up front: The Calabasas football team continues to lose linemen. Senior left tackle Joe Baik, a two-year starter, is out three to seven weeks because of a broken leg. Senior Ethan Ruff, a starter at left guard and defensive tackle, is likely out for the season because of a broken bone in his back. Ruff was an All-Frontier League selection last season.

The comeback kid: Quarterback Joe Borchard was named Cal-Hi Sports boys’ player of the week for leading Camarillo from a 35-7 deficit to a 41-35 victory over Agoura. Borchard threw a five-yard pass to Justin Howe with 33 seconds to play to tie the score, and Camarillo won when lineman Mike Davis scored on a 26-yard interception return with nine seconds left.

Borchard, a 6-foot-3 senior, passed for 302 yards and four touchdowns, completing 18 of 35. He also ran for a 50-yard touchdown.

Money player: Jackson Light of Simi Valley is ready for the next Skin’s Game. The 19-year-old, who says he’s played one round of golf in his life, made a 10-foot putt Saturday for $25,000.

Light was chosen from a drawing to attempt the putt during the Senior PGA Tour stop in Napa, Calif. He practiced putting for almost two weeks, then came through in front of about 200 fans.

How did he do it? Did he study the break of the green?

“I don’t even know,” he said.
