The Nordhoff High boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams were runaway winners in the second Frontier League meet of the season Tuesday at Tierra Rejada Park in Moorpark.

The Rangers totaled 27 points in the boys’ meet, paced by the 1-2 finish of juniors Dusty Herman and Victor Ochoa. Moorpark was second with 43 points.

Herman clocked 15 minutes 31 seconds over the three-mile course with Ochoa at 16:07 as the three-time defending State Division III champions had five of the top 10 finishers.

In the girls’ meet, senior Terrah Chapin placed first to lead Nordhoff, which scored 26 points. Moorpark was second with 47.

Chapin, sixth in the 1995 State championships, clocked 18:31. Moorpark senior Keri Moran was second in 19:55.

Elaine Canchola, the defending State Division III champion, did not run because of an injury, and Bridie Hatch, ninth in the State meet last year, was sidelined because of a sore throat.

Still, the Rangers, the defending State Division III champions, took six of the top nine places.
