* Update: In the Monarchs’ 38-13 victory over Mission Viejo, quarterback Nick Stremick threw three interceptions before being knocked out of the game in the third quarter. “I think we were just about as horrible as we could be,” Coach Bruce Rollinson said.

2. COMPTON DOMINGUEZ, 6-0 (2)

* Next: Friday at Gahr.

* Update: With a 28-0 victory over Warren, the Dons extended their shutout streak to 16 quarters. They have given up only six points and 703 total yards.

3. FONTANA, 5-0-1 (3)

* Next: Friday vs. Rialto.

* Update: With quarterback P.J. Guerrero serving a one-game suspension for being ejected the previous week, Ramon Villalvazo threw more passes (16, completing nine) in a 21-12 victory over Redlands than the Steelers had thrown the previous two games.

* Next: Saturday vs. No. 8 Bishop Amat at Glendale High.

* Update: Quarterback Ray Kaspar returned from a leg injury and rushed for a touchdown in a 26-3 victory over St. Paul. The Cubs didn’t commit any turnovers and held St. Paul to 25 yards rushing.

5. ANAHEIM ESPERANZA, 5-1 (11)

* Next: Friday vs. Edison at Orange Coast College.

* Update: For the second year in a row, the Aztecs upset previously undefeated Los Alamitos. In last Thursday’s 24-20 victory, Jamaal Footman rushed for 197 yards and two touchdowns.

6. PALOS VERDES PENINSULA, 6-0 (6)

* Next: Friday vs. West Torrance.

* Update: The Panthers have been criticized for not passing more, but their offense averages 36 points. They ran well again in a 52-7 victory over Torrance.

7. LOS ALAMITOS, 5-1 (4)

* Next: Tonight vs. Fountain Valley at Huntington Beach High.

* Update: Sean Stein, Orange County’s leading passer, was held to 252 yards and one touchdown in 24-20 loss to Esperanza. He also threw only his second interception.

8. LA PUENTE BISHOP AMAT, 5-1 (7)

* Next: Saturday vs. No. 4 Loyola at Glendale High.

* Update: Breon Ansley rushed for 202 yards and two touchdowns and also had an interception in the Lancers’ 24-21 come-from-behind victory over Crespi.

* Next: Friday vs. Crespi at Pierce College.

* Update: Trailing Alemany, 14-7, in the first quarter, the Braves scored the next 35 points in a 49-26 victory. De’Andre O’Neal ran for 184 yards, three touchdowns.

* Update: The Antelopes, idle last week, begin defense of their Golden League title against Littlerock, which is off to a 6-1 start.

* Update: The Braves began Mt. Baldy League play with a 40-6 victory over Montclair. Their average margin of victory is 30 points.

* Update: A week after being routed by Mater Dei, the Friars rebounded with a 41-0 victory over Ocean View. Danny Rubalcava rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns.

13. WOODLAND HILLS TAFT, 6-0 (14)

* Next: Friday at San Fernando.

* Update: Nick DiPadova passed for a school-record six touchdowns and 212 yards in three quarters in Taft’s 56-14 victory over Cleveland. Taft’s leading rusher, Sedric Hurns, suffered a knee injury and his season is in jeopardy.

* Next: Friday vs. Murrieta Valley.

* Update: The Cougars’ defense has recovered 17 fumbles and intercepted nine passes. In a 45-0 victory over La Sierra, Norco gave up one first down and 16 total yards.

15. THOUSAND OAKS, 5-1 (NR)

* Next: Friday at Simi Valley.

* Update: Scott McEwan completed nine of 12 passes for 207 yards, including a 44-yard touchdown to Jeff Wyly in the fourth quarter, to lead the Lancers to a 25-21 upset of Westlake.

* Next: Friday vs. Camarillo.

* Update: Casey Preston completed 18 of 25 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns against Thousand Oaks. But the Warriors rushed for 10 yards in 11 carries.

* Update: The Pirates completed the toughest stretch of their conference schedule with a 35-6 victory over Washington. Melvin Yarbrough completed seven of 10 passes for 163 yards and four touchdowns.

* Update: The Terriers lost for the 19th time in a row to Fontana, 21-12. Redlands shut out the Steelers in the second half.

* Update: James Dunn returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown and also had a 63-yard interception return for a touchdown to lead the Huskies to a 52-16 victory over Murrieta Valley.

* Next: Friday vs. Riverside Poly.

* Update: The Falcons took advantage of five turnovers to defeat Riverside North, 48-7. Rubidoux played without quarterback Darryl Knight, who had knee surgery.

* DROPPED OUT: No. 20 Goleta Dos Pueblos (6-0), beat Rio Mesa, 51-34.
