Regals Dig Up Another Title

Senior outside hitter Tracy Little had 12 kills and 10 digs as Cal Lutheran clinched its third consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s volleyball title by downing Pomona-Pitzer, 15-9, 15-11, 15-11, on Tuesday night at Thousand Oaks.

The sixth-ranked Regals (17-3, 12-0 in conference) wrapped up their second consecutive undefeated conference season. Their last loss in SCIAC play came on Oct. 28, 1994.

Karen Kasper added 11 kills and and three digs, and setter Liz Martinez had 35 assists and seven digs for Cal Lutheran, runner-up in the NCAA Division III championships last year.

Andrea Bustamante had 14 kills and Heather Pilatic added 12 kills and four digs for Pomona-Pitzer (16-9, 7-4).

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Highland d. Littlerock, 16-14, 15-3, 15-5--Jennifer Smith had 12 kills and Jennifer Crosier had 25 assists as the Bulldogs (8-4, 6-0) clinched the Golden League title at Littlerock.

Santa Barbara d. Buena, 12-15, 15-9, 15-6, 12-15, 15-4--Nicole Greathouse had 13 kills and Shana Matlock had five aces but the Bulldogs (8-5, 7-4) dropped a Channel League match at Santa Barbara.

Flintridge Sacred Heart d. Louisville, 15-5, 15-5, 16-14--Catherine Smith had 33 assists and Megan Hosp added six solo blocks for the Tologs (9-3, 5-2) in a Mission League match.

Royal d. Channel Islands, 16-14, 15-6, 15-8--Carrie Swartz had 13 kills for the Highlanders (10-3, 9-2) in a Marmonte League match at Channel Islands.

Maryl Mashburn added 23 assists.

Kennedy d. Granada Hills, 15-6, 15-13, 15-3--Stephanie Ong had 32 assists and Christine Thach added 12 kills for the Golden Cougars (10-0, 7-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Granada Hills.

Simi Valley d. Thousand Oaks, 15-12, 18-16, 15-11--Jensa Metcalf had 13 kills and 12 assists for the Pioneers (3-9, 3-8) in a Marmonte League upset at Thousand Oaks.

Shannon Malia had 11 kills and 20 digs for Simi Valley.

Bell-Jeff d. St. Anthony, 15-8, 15-8, 9-15, 15-8--Jackie Johnson had 21 kills and Audrey Taganas added 16 for the Guards (7-5, 5-2) in a Camino Real League match at Burbank.

MEN’S SOCCER

The Master’s 5, Christian Heritage 1--Bryan Lee had three goals to help the Mustangs (14-3-2) extend their unbeaten streak to 10 games at Christian Heritage.

Lee scored his seventh, eighth and ninth goals of the season for Master’s (14-3-2), which is on a 9-0-1 streak.

Eric Benitez and Dan Hensley also scored for the Mustangs, who led, 2-1, at halftime.

Moorpark 3, Hancock 0--Mike Sanders scored in the 26th and 80th minutes for the Raiders (6-1-4, 2-1-1) in a Western State Conference match at Moorpark.

Curtis Silverest also scored and Justin Hanover made six saves.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Glendale 2, Oxnard 0--Sandra Platero scored two goals in the second half for the Vaqueros (3-8-1, 2-5-1) in a WSC match at Glendale.

Jennifer D’Entremont recorded five saves.

Aracely Rodriguez made eight saves for Oxnard (0-10-1, 0-9-1).

Fresno State 2, CS Northridge 0--The Matadors (4-13-1) were outshot, 15-8, while losing at Fresno.

Sarah McEachen scored in the 17th minute and Kristen Sinclair scored in the 31st minute for Fresno State (8-9-1).

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Quartz Hill 18, Palmdale 0--Nicole Williford swept her singles matches without dropping a game for the Rebels (15-1, 7-0) in a Golden League match at Quartz Hill.

Rachelle Drury and Rebecca Young had doubles victories of 6-3, 6-3, and 6-0.

Hart 15, Saugus 2--Freshman Jieun Jacobs won, 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, at No. 1 singles for the Indians (9-5, 8-1) in a Foothill League match.

Jacobs is 27-0 in league.

Harvard-Westlake 13, Notre Dame 5--Lori Markman and Chelsea Heller won three doubles sets by 6-0 scores for the Wolverines (11-5, 8-2) in a Mission League match at the Racquet Centre.

Simi Valley 11, Thousand Oaks 7--The Pioneers (11-4, 7-4) won eight of nine doubles matches in a Marmonte League match at Rancho Simi.

No. 1 doubles team Margo O’Donnell and Stella Chu, and No. 3 team Eugenia Koo and April Forrester recorded sweeps for Simi Valley.

Lyndsey Tadlock, Angela Chen and Melissa Kiefer went 2-1 in singles for Thousand Oaks (10-6, 7-4).

Agoura 12, Newbury Park 6--No. 1 singles player Jennifer Donahue and the No. 1 doubles team of Angie Sveda and Christine Larralde swept their sets as the Chargers (6-9, 5-6) won a Marmonte League match at Agoura.

Among Sveda and Larralde’s victories was a 7-6 (8-6) tie-breaker victory over Jamie Walker and Amy Spurrier.

Flintridge Sacred Heart 12, Alemany 6--The Tologs won only three of nine singles matches, but were undefeated in doubles in a Mission League match at Cal State Northridge.

Kelley Turk and Meghan McGoldrick, Flintridge Sacred Heart’s No. 1 doubles team, won by scores of 6-3, 6-4, 6-0.

Granada Hills 6, El Camino Real 1--Karen Fung and Anne Wu won tiebreakers to score singles victories for Granada Hills (11-0, 8-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at El Camino Real.

Monroe 7, Reseda 0--Freshman Jessica Barrett won, 6-0, 6-0, in singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Maria Bernaldez and Michelle Castro won, 6-0, 6-1, for the Vikings (3-7, 3-4) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Reseda.
