Double-Barreled Attack Leads Harvard-Westlake to Victory

Amanda Rosenbloom, playing in her first varsity match, teamed with Marissa Kase for a doubles sweep as Harvard-Westlake High downed Louisville, 12-6, Tuesday in a Mission League girls’ tennis match at the Racquet Centre in Studio City.

Rosenbloom and Kase lost just four games, defeating their opponents, 6-3, 6-0, and 6-1.

Harvard-Westlake (13-6, 11-2 in league) recorded an 8-1 advantage in doubles, as Amanda Countner and Kelley Hanker also posted a sweep with victories of 6-2, 6-3, and 6-1.

In singles, Lindsy Forbess went 2-1 for Harvard-Westlake.

Katie Gallant was undefeated in No. 1 singles for Louisville (10-7, 9-4), while No. 2 Gabrielle Miller went 2-1.

Flintridge Sacred Heart 11, Bishop Montgomery 7--Courtney Turk swept in singles and the team of Kelley Turk and Hilary Warner swept in doubles for the Tologs (5-13, 5-8) in a Mission League match at Bishop Montgomery.

Karn Stewart and Piper Wood also combined for a Tolog doubles sweep.

For the Knights, Keri Nakasone, Melissa Verania, and Kim Ng all had 2-1 singles records.

Westlake 15, Agoura 3--Helena Horak, Erin Smith and Katy Smith combined for a 9-0 record in singles for the Warriors (15-3, 11-2) in a Marmonte League victory at Agoura.

Jennifer Azevedo and Brittany Jensky teamed for the Warriors’ only sweep in doubles.

Simi Valley 13, Royal 5--Mindy Gondrez and Shannon Connole swept in singles for the Pioneers in a Marmonte League match against Royal (4-13, 2-10).

Margo O’Donnell and Stella Chu paired for a doubles sweep--including two 6-0 wins--for the Pioneers (14-4, 9-4).

Quartz Hill 18, Littlerock 0--Nicole Williford, Roopa Dandamudi and Heidi Gragg swept their singles sets by 6-0 scores as the Rebels (17-1, 9-0) clinched the Golden League title at Quartz Hill.

MEN’S SOCCER

Pomona-Pitzer 2, Cal Lutheran 1--Anthony Reyes and Brendan Horens scored first-half goals for Pomona-Pitzer (11-6, 7-2) in a SCIAC match at Thousand Oaks.

Alvede Okokhere scored his 28th goal of the season in the second half for Cal Lutheran (12-6, 8-1), which has clinched at least a share of its second consecutive conference title.

Moorpark 2, Oxnard 0--Tyler Giardina and Oscar Zavala scored the goals, and goalie Justin Hanover recorded his fifth shutout for the Raiders (7-1-5, 3-1-2) in a WSC match at Oxnard.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Moorpark 7, Hancock 0--Vanessa Macen had two goals and two assists, and Cindy Valle and Britt Christensen each scored two goals for the Raiders (13-2, 10-1) in a WSC match at Moorpark.

Cuesta 1, Ventura 1--Mandy Westbrook scored in the 19th minute for the Pirates and Cuesta’s Jackie Connelly scored in the 42nd minute of a WSC match.

Westbrook scored her 14th goal when she slid into goalkeeper Jeanette Trier of Cuesta (12-2-2, 7-1-2). Westbrook injured her ankle on the play and did not return.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Cal Lutheran d. Chapman, 14-16, 15-5, 15-9, 15-5--1996 SCIAC Player of the Year Tracy Little, 1996 Southern California Collegiate Athletic Conference player of the year, had 25 kills for the Regals (19-3) against Chapman (9-13) at Thousand Oaks.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Harvard-Westlake d. Chaminade, 15-4, 15-9, 15-11--Christine Bohle had eight kills, and Malaika Naulls and Ann Jakle each had seven for the Wolverines (13-1, 9-0) in a Mission League match.

Hart d. Valencia, 15-1, 15-8, 15-6--Mary Keen had 11 kills and Patty Plahn added seven as the Indians (15-1, 9-0) clinched their first Foothill League title.

Saugus d. Burroughs, 15-6, 15-5, 15-11--Lauren McCartin had 10 kills and Erika Lilley added 24 assists for the Centurions (9-4, 6-3) in a Foothill League match.

La Reina d. Fillmore, 15-0, 15-7, 15-2--Tory Fithian had seven kills and seven digs for the Regents (17-0, 9-0) in a Tri-Valley League match at La Reina.

L.A. Baptist d. Marshall, 15-0, 15-3, 15-2--Gloria Erickson had eight kills and Tricia Stanton added seven for the Knights in a Alpha League match.

Defending league champion L.A. Baptist (13-2, 8-1) remained in a first-place tie with Maranatha with one match remaining.

Granada Hills d. Taft, 15-4, 15-6, 15-10--Lindy Gayton had 12 kills for the Highlanders (9-3, 6-3) in a Northwest Valley match.

Viewpoint d. Pilgrim, 15-5, 15-8, 15-7--Lauren Campbell had eight kills and 10 assists, and Taryn Linder added six kills to help the Patriots clinch their third consecutive Heritage League title.

Viewpoint (15-1, 9-0) has won 25 consecutive league matches.

Milken d. Highland Hall, 15-2, 15-3, 15-10--Shana Blitz had 10 kills and six aces, and Monique Soudry added 10 kills and four aces as the Wildcats (15-3, 8-1) won their first Westside League title.
