Tustin Rushes Past Saddleback, 42-28

Tustin rushed for 484 yards Thursday night, enabling the Tillers to roll past Saddleback, 42-28, at Tustin High.

It was the eighth consecutive game in which Tustin has scored 40 or more points. Deshaun Foster led the way with four touchdowns, 196 rushing yards and 47 receiving yards.

Barndon Lambert rushed for 121 yards and Greg Carnal added 105 for Tustin.

“We still have to work on our defense if we want to make any headway in the playoffs,” Tustin Coach Myron Miller said after the victory, which assured the Tillers a playoff berth with one game left on the Golden West League schedule.

Saddleback quarterback Juan Cabral gave the Tillers a scare, completing 11 passes for 226 yards.

Foster ran 82 yards for a touchdown the first time he touched the ball. He also scored on touchdown runs of one and 36 yards and caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Todd Scott to give him 24 touchdowns this season.

Saddleback (6-3, 2-2 in league) never trailed by more than two touchdowns. The Roadrunners fell behind, 14-6, at halftime on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Cabral to Derrick Barnes.

Tustin (8-1, 3-1) took control of the offense in the second half with four touchdowns on drives of 61, 62, 62 and 77 yards.

After Foster had scored on a one-yard run, Cabral connected with Joseph Tagaloa with a 48-yard touchdown pass to make the score 21-14.

The teams exchanged touchdowns for the rest of the game.

Foster scored from 36 yards and Tagaloa scored from one and at the end of the third quarter as Tustin held a slim 27-21 edge.

Lambert scored from the two for Tustin and Franke Gonzalez scored from the two for Saddleback as Tustin maintained its lead.
