Aaron Flowers, Cal State Northridge’s record-setting quarterback, was named Big Sky Conference offensive player of the week, making him the first Matador to win that honor.

Flowers completed 17 of 28 passes for 431 yards and two touchdowns in Northridge’s 42-40 victory over Idaho State on Saturday night.

It was the second consecutive 400-yard performance for Flowers, who has a school record 3,040 yards passing this season.

Five football players from the region were selected as junior college players of the week.

They were running backs Rahsaan Harrison of Glendale and Lafayette Bailey of Antelope Valley, wide receiver Jermaine Brooks of Pierce and quarterbacks Dan McMullen of Pierce and Dave Lins of Valley.

Harrison rushed for 270 yards and two touchdowns against Pierce, while Bailey rushed for 203 yards and three touchdowns against Citrus.

McMullen completed 24 of 38 passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns. Brooks caught 12 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown, and returned a kickoff 91 yards for a score. Lins was 22 of 34 for 309 yards and three touchdowns in a victory over Moorpark.

Cream rises: Valley College rose one notch to third in the state football rankings after beating Moorpark, 44-23, Saturday night. Moorpark fell from eighth to 19th.

Monopoly: Middle blocker Getty Dimitrova of Cal State Northridge was selected Big Sky Conference women’s volleyball player of the week, the third consecutive Matador to win the award.

Dimitrova had 47 kills and 19 blocks in three matches as the Matadors took the Big Sky title.
