39 County Teams Vie for State Berths
Thirty-nine Orange County teams and 17 individual runners will compete for titles beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday in the Southern Section cross-country finals at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
The top four teams in each race--boys and girls in Divisions I through V--will advance to the Nov. 30 state meet in Fresno, as will the top five individual runners not on a qualifying team, if they are among each race’s top 20 finishers.
The boys’ Division II race, featuring Orange County champion Mark Gleason (Mission Viejo), is the first race. The girls’ competition begins at 9:10 with the Division II race, featuring county champion Allyson Marquand (University) and the Dana Hills team.
The day’s last race, Division I girls, features Sunset League champion Esperanza and Sea View League champion Irvine. It begins at 10:30.
