Irvine Valley Clinches Playoff Berth

Irvine Valley scored four goals in the second half to clinch a playoff berth as the Lasers beat Cypress, 5-1, in Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer Friday at Cypress.
Aaron Fry and Zack Matthews each scored two goals for Irvine Valley, which finished the regular season 14-6-3, 7-4-1. Sean Bartko had five saves for the Lasers. Cypress finished 2-15-1, 1-10-1.
In other conference games:
Fullerton 4, Orange Coast 1--Bo Whieldon, with assists from Jose Munoz and Danny Bray, scored two goals for Fullerton (11-6, 7-5).
Rancho Santiago 4, Riverside 1--Steve Cervantes, Chris Carrillo, Horatio Rivera and Ferni Castellanos each scored goals for Rancho Santiago (16-1-2, 11-0-1).
In the Bill Mulligan men’s basketball classic:
Irvine Valley 86, Ventura 82--Daryl Todd scored eight of his 26 points in the final three minutes to help Irvine Valley (1-2) defeat two-time defending state champion Ventura (0-3) in a consolation game.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball:
Fullerton 3, Cypress 0--Michelle Halliday had 10 kills to lead third-ranked Fullerton to a 15-4, 15-8, 15-5 victory that clinched a tie with Golden West for first place in the conference.
