In another Mission Conference game:

Riverside 30, Golden West 21--Riverside scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns as the Tigers defeated Golden West (1-9, 1-5) in a Central Division game. The Tigers finish 3-7, 3-3 in the division.

Riverside quarterback Brent Meier scored the first of those touchdowns on a one-yard run to tie it, 14-14. But Golden West struck back and regained a lead when Mike McCullough caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Brian Baughman with 3:36 left.

Two plays later, the Tigers tied the score when Meier found Mickey Grimes with a 62-yard touchdown pass. An interception by Jeremy Luginbill at Golden West’s 46-yard line set up a 36-yard field goal by Nick Anderson that gave Riverside a 24-21 lead with 42 seconds remaining.

In the Bill Mulligan men’s basketball classic:

Irvine Valley 85, Riverside 84--Brandon Hearvey made a layup with 11 seconds left as Irvine Valley won the consolation title.

Daryl Todd was 12 of 14 from the free-throw line for Irvine Valley, which won the consolation title. Todd had 37 points and had five steals for the Lasers.

In the Mt. San Jacinto women’s basketball tournament:

Rancho Santiago 69, Mt. San Jacinto 57--Pauline McGee scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds as Rancho Santiago (5-0) won the tournament championship.

In the state community college men’s cross-country championships:

Rancho Santiago places fourth--Juan Medrano of Rancho Santiago placed 16th in 21:14 over the four-mile course to lead his team to a fourth-place finish.

Johann Appell from Orange Coast was the top county finisher, placing 12th in 21:05.

In the state community college women’s cross-country championships:

Orange Coast places fifth--Donna Mills of Orange Coast, who finished in 18:45, took top county honors and was third overall over the three-mile course as the Pirates were fifth overall. Linda Bindloss of Irvine Valley was 12th in 19:16.
