Baldwin Keeps Phone Line Open

NORTHRIDGE — Cal State Northridge football Coach Dave Baldwin, who spent Thursday night anxiously waiting by his phone, expects to learn today if he will be offered the coaching post at San Jose State.
Baldwin, 41, who became a hot prospect when he led the Matadors to one of the most remarkable turnarounds in the nation, is considered a strong candidate among the six who were interviewed at San Jose State. Baldwin was a Spartan assistant coach in the mid-1980s.
Nick Aliotti, special teams coach of the St. Louis Rams, also is considered a strong contender. The others reportedly interviewed include Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Coach Andre Patterson, California offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, Colorado State defensive coordinator Larry Kerr and North Texas Coach Matt Simon--who reportedly pulled out of the running this week.
