Cypress Beats Twentynine Palms in Tournament

A.D. Lamoureux hit five three-pointers to lead Cypress to its first victory this season with a 92-74 romp over Twentynine Palms in the first round of the Barstow men’s basketball tournament.

Lamoureux finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds for Cypress (1-5). Willie Allen led the Chargers in scoring with 28 points.

In the Grossmont men’s basketball tournament:

Rancho Santiago 76, Palomar 66--Lohnnie Tape led Rancho Santiago (5-1) with 21 points and eight rebounds. Teammate Brian Slusser added 17 points and six rebounds and Mark Saukkola added 13 points. The Dons led at halftime, 40-24.

In the Orange Coast Kiwanis men’s basketball tournament:

Irvine Valley 89, El Camino 52--Brandon Hearvey led the Lasers, scoring 22 points and collecting 17 rebounds in the first-round victory.

Long Beach 74, Orange Coast 56--David Downs pulled Orange Coast to within one at 50-49, scoring eight straight points with 8:45 remaining, but Long Beach (6-2) went on a 14-0 run to clinch the victory.

Downs finished with 20 points and nine rebounds for Orange Coast (3-4). Josh Newburn led Long Beach with 23 points and nine rebounds.

Victor Valley 78, Golden West 59--Larry Treadwell scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds for Victor Valley. Sean Warr scored 12 points for the host Rams (5-4).

Jacy Armbruster scored 12 points for Golden West (1-3).

In the Cuesta women’s basketball tournament:

Orange Coast 84, Bakersfield 49--Dianne Pulido scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Orange Coast College (7-1) in the first-round game. Arlyn Rambayon scored 17 points. Wendy Komin led Bakersfield (4-3) with 21 points. The Pirates advanced to play Sacramento Cosumnes River College in the semifinals at 6 p.m.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Irvine Valley 72, Grossmont 56--Dyanna Hatch score 18 points and had 13 rebounds for host Irvine Valley (6-1). Heather Cunningham and Allison Carr each added 16 points and Carr had 13 rebounds for the Lazers. Sara Cravey had 18 points for Grossmont (1-6).
