McCoy Has a Record Day and El Camino Wins

Cory McCoy caught four touchdown passes and rushed for another on Saturday as El Camino upset Grossmont, 35-34, in the Simple Green Orange County Bowl at Orange Coast College.

In all, McCoy caught 11 passes for 170 yards. And he completed a 36-yard pass on third down with 1:15 left, which allowed the Warriors (8-3) to run out the clock.

The winning touchdown was scored when McCoy, who was open along the left sideline, caught a 30-yard pass with about four minutes left.

McCoy set Orange County Bowl records for receptions, touchdown catches and tied the record for total touchdowns.

Quarterback Akili Smith completed 16 of 30 passes for 316 yards and one touchdown for Grossmont (9-2). He also rushed for two touchdowns. El Camino’s Damion Ward was 23 of 41 for 323 yards and four touchdowns.

Bakersfield 41, Long Beach 27--Nathan Sparks had less than half as many yards passing as Tyler Tomich, but he threw three touchdown passes to lead the Renegades (10-1) past the Vikings (8-3) in the Shrine Potato Bowl.

A crowd of 7,512 at Bakersfield Memorial Stadium watched Tomich complete 22 of 40 for 318 yards and a touchdown. He was intercepted twice. Sparks threw only 15 passes, completing nine for 131 yards.

Valley 37, Hancock 25--Dave Lins threw three touchdown passes to lead the Monarchs (10-1) past the Tigers (9-2) in the No Fear Bowl at Valley College in Van Nuys.
