Rained-Out Tree Lighting Rescheduled
The city tree-lighting ceremony washed out by wet weather two weeks ago has been rescheduled for Friday night by the local Chamber of Commerce.
The free event will feature Christmas carolers from La Trinidad Church, candy canes for all and, for the first 100 children to arrive, photos with Santa Claus.
The celebration will be held around a 60-foot evergreen that was planted seven years ago in the median of Brand Boulevard, said the chamber’s Joe Sandoval.
Ten outstanding students from San Fernando elementary and middle schools will receive certificates for their academic achievements during the event and will participate in the lighting of the tree.
However, if it rains on Friday, Sandoval said, officials could be forced to call off the event again. Weather permitting, the celebration will begin at 6 p.m. on Brand Boulevard between San Fernando Road and Celis Street.
