Flames swept through a house in North Hollywood early Wednesday, killing an 81-year-old woman, a city fire spokesman said.
Miriam Rose was killed in the fire, officials said, which broke out in the single-story residence in the 5500 block of North Carpenter Avenue. The fire was reported at 4:53 a.m. and extinguished within 24 minutes, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, Wells said. Damage to the property and its contents was estimated at $250,000.
