Church to Reprise Christmas Show

Share

As a way of giving thanks for tremendous turnouts the past two years, the Crossroads Community Church will again perform the “Miracle at the Manger” as its Christmas gift to the Camarillo community.

Theatrical reproductions of the classic nativity painting “The Adoration of the Shepherds” by Gherardo Della Notte (1590-1656) and another masterpiece, “The Annunciation” by Luca Giordano (1634-1705), will each be presented as part of four half-hour performances from 7 to 9 p.m. today through Sunday.

“Every night will be a different cast,” said Craig Misuradze, production director.

While volunteers strike a pose to re-create the scenes, a 25-person chorus will sing traditional Christmas songs, including performance-closing carols. The audience is invited to sing along.

“The Adoration of the Shepherds” captures the spirit of wonder and amazement that filled early witnesses of the incarnation, Misuradze said.

“The Annunciation,” he said, depicts the interplay of the spiritual and material worlds with the angel Gabriel speaking to the Virgin Mary.

About 2,500 people attended last year’s performances, and Misuradze said he expects up to 3,000 people this year.

More than 100 volunteers will take part in the presentations.

The family event will feature a petting zoo as well as candy canes and hot drinks for everyone.

Admission is free and open to the public. The church is at 1221 Calle Suerte.
