Fitch Tinkers With Second-Half Lineup

Share

Clipper Coach Bill Fitch started Terry Dehere in place of Darrick Martin at point guard and Charles Outlaw at center in place of Kevin Duckworth in the third quarter of Sunday’s 97-91 loss at Golden State.

Dehere had seven points, four rebounds and four assists in 21 minutes and Outlaw had four points, four rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots in 25 minutes.

“I thought they had something going,” Fitch said. “They had a lot of energy in the second quarter [when the Clippers outscored the Warriors, 23-14] when we got back in the game and I thought we could go from there. We’re better defensively when we’ve got Outlaw and Dehere.”

Duckworth, who had only eight points and six rebounds in his last three games, had four points and no rebounds in six minutes against the Warriors.

Duckworth was hampered by a sore left heel, which didn’t allow him to make cuts.

Guard Pooh Richardson sat out his sixth consecutive game because of a sore right ankle.

Richardson, who wasn’t in uniform for the last three games, dressed for the game after working out Saturday, but said the ankle was too sore for him to play.

Guard Brent Barry, who sat out Friday’s 16-point loss at Seattle because of a sore back, played seven minutes against the Warriors, making one of three shots and scoring two points.

Warrior center Felton Spencer and forward Donyell Marshall didn’t dress for the game because of flu. Rookie Todd Fuller started in place of Spencer and had eight points and six assists.

The Warriors activated forward Lou Roe, who missed 20 games because of a back injury, and placed forward Donald Royal on the injured list because of a broken finger on his left hand.
