An elderly woman was found stabbed to death, apparently after withdrawing money from a bank in Silver Lake, Los Angeles police said Saturday.
The body of Frances Uyeda, 74, was found by family members slumped over in the front seat of her car about 10 p.m. Friday, according to LAPD Sgt. Zimmie Williams. Police said they believed the motive was robbery.
Williams said that family members had earlier reported the woman missing, saying that she had left home about 10 a.m. with the intention of withdrawing money from a local bank. When she failed to return, he said, family members filed a missing persons report with police, then conducted their own search. They found her body, bearing multiple stab wounds, in the front seat of the car parked in the 2400 block of Teviot Street near Silver Lake Avenue.
Williams said the car was parked near a Bank of America, which may have been the bank Uyeda had used.
