A Lancaster man was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter early Sunday morning after the car he was driving crashed, killing a passenger, authorities said.

Gary Hardy, 35, was driving north on Bouquet Canyon Road, just south of Lake Elizabeth Road, when he lost control of the car and crashed into a telephone pole, California Highway Patrol Officer Ken Lane said.

The accident killed 26-year-old Tina Marie Peterson of Lancaster, who had been sitting in the rear right passenger seat and was thrown from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
