Burroughs Wins Despite Sherard

Senior guard Major Sherard scored a school-record 42 points for Saugus High, but the Centurions fell to Burroughs, 92-89, in overtime of a Foothill League game at Saugus.

Sherard made three free throws with four seconds to play to tie the score, 88-88, and send the game into overtime.

Jeremy Cartee led Burroughs (11-11, 3-3 in league play) with 24 points and Juan Zavala had 22 points.

Matt Bradley had 13 points for Saugus (8-12, 3-3).

Hart 79, Canyon 55--J.T. Stotts had 21 points, seven assists and seven rebounds for the host Indians (17-5, 6-0) in a Foothill League game.

Cory Johnson had 14 points for Hart, while the Cowboys were led by Steve Eernisse with 22 points.

Royal 61, Newbury Park 60--Ryan Denihan made a free throw with 21 seconds left to break a 60-60 tie in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.

Gabe Gapol scored 15 points, Nick Flanagan had 13 and Denihan added 10 to lead the Highlanders (13-9, 5-5), who played without Ryan Nielsen who was out with flu.

Daniel Bobik had 16 points, and Jim Newton had 14 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Panthers (13-8, 7-3).

Channel Islands 53, Agoura 51--Charles Merricks scored 20 points and O.J. Thomas added 15 for the Raiders (15-5, 5-5) in a Marmonte League victory at home.

Westlake 69, Camarillo 45--Joey Cuppari scored 16 points and Kevin Howard had 12 points for the Warriors in a Marmonte League game at Camarillo.

The Scorpions (10-10, 3-7) shot 19% in the second half.

Simi Valley 76, Thousand Oaks 57--The Pioneers made 32 of 36 free throws to win a Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks.

Brett Michel had 22 points to lead the Pioneers (16-7, 8-2). Joe Riccio had 11 points for Thousand Oaks (10-11, 3-7).

Oxnard 58, Buena 56--Ross Randolph and Jeff Fouchey each scored 13 points for the Yellowjackets (10-9, 4-6) in a Channel league game at Buena.

Ventura 81, Hueneme 58--Christian Gallagher hit nine three-pointers and finished with 32 points for the visiting Cougars (12-9, 6-4) in a Channel League game.

Paul McCrae had 20 points, including five three-pointers, for the Vikings (4-15, 1-9).

La Canada 53, Blair 52--Matt Moore’s layup with one second to play at La Canada lifted the Spartans (15-5, 5-1) into a first-place tie with Blair (15-5, 5-1) in the Rio Hondo League. Moore scored 33 points.

Calabasas 83, Nordhoff 67--Ryan Coleman had 33 points and 12 assists, and Bobby Baumann added 28 points--including five three-pointers--for the Coyotes (12-9, 3-3) in a Frontier League game at home.

Moorpark 82, Malibu 78--The Musketeers led by 15 points early and held on to win a Frontier League game at Moorpark.

Kevin Lawrence scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Keith Donahue scored 19 points for Moorpark (16-7, 4-2).

Oak Park 66, Bishop Diego 51--Randy Gastwirt had 23 points and John Murphy scored 17 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for the Eagles (15-6, 5-0) in a Tri-Valley League contest at Bishop Diego.

Antelope Valley 89, Littlerock 49--Brian Ward had 16 points and Marc Buckner scored 15 points for the Antelopes in a Golden League game at Antelope Valley.

Palmdale 83, Highland 74--Kerry Yates tied a season high with 24 points for Palmdale (14-8, 4-1) in a Golden League game at Palmdale. Yates had six assists and five rebounds.

Bell-Jeff 69, La Salle 46--Ruben Douglas had 24 points and Kent Dennis added 20 for the Guards (17-6, 9-0), who extended their winning streak to 10 games with the Santa Fe League victory at La Salle.

L.A. Baptist 81, Vasquez 43--Jermaine Sweet scored 27 points for the host Knights (19-1, 8-0) in an Alpha League game.

Tim Maynard added 12 points for No. 9 L.A. Baptist.

Montclair Prep 72, Whitewater 70--Darin Brock had 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Mounties (14-6) in a nonleague game at Montclair Prep.

Kennedy 50, Taft 43--Despite 17 turnovers, the Golden Cougars (9-9, 4-2), led by Michael Calloway’s 17 points, won a Northwest Valley Conference game at Kennedy.

San Fernando 67, El Camino Real 56--Tyrone Purnell had 17 points and 10 rebounds while Luis DeLaRosa scored 14 points for the Tigers (10-9, 4-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference victory at home.

Cleveland 62, Chatsworth 53--Donald Holt had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Cavaliers (16-5, 4-2), who overcame a five-point fourth quarter deficit to win a Northwest Valley Conference game at Chatsworth.

North Hollywood 61, Monroe 58--Jonathan Hicks scored 19 points, including all five of the Huskies’ points in overtime, in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Monroe.
