LINCOLN, Neb. — Jeremy Sonnenfeld is going into the record books as the first bowler to roll three perfect games in a row in competition.
“It’s total elation,” the 20-year-old business major at Nebraska said Tuesday after learning his feat had been recognized by the American Bowling Congress. “It is the equivalent of someone getting three holes in one on a 540-yard, par five. It’s something nobody thought could be done.”
Sonnenfeld bowled 36 strikes in a row Sunday in Lincoln during a fund-raiser for the school team.
ABC executive Jack Mordini said Sonnenfeld had to meet three basic criteria to make the record book: He had to be an ABC member, the lanes had to meet size specifications, and the tournament rules had to meet ABC regulations.
Sonnenfeld, who has been bowling since he was 12, said he has no plans to turn pro. Until Sunday, his average score was 225; now, it’s 232.
