CBS and Bill Murray Hit It Fat at Pebble

Being an avid golf fan, as are most of my friends, I have been upset for some time with the way golf tournaments are delayed for all other sports and cut short when any other sport telecasts are scheduled to start.

Last Saturday’s telecast of the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am by CBS was the final blow. The program was scheduled to be shown from noon until 3 p.m.

CBS didn’t even have a scheduled program to follow the golf. TV listings only called for a paid program. Yet at five minutes to 3 p.m., Tiger Woods was to hit his second shot on the 18th hole with a chance to tie the course record with a birdie, and guess what! CBS elected to go to another program.

If this had been any other sport, it would have been completed.

Am I missing something, or has the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am become the Bill Murray Show?

It seems each year his boorish antics in this contest are more outrageous and disruptive. Yes, this is a pro-celebrity event with a lighthearted approach, but it appears that Murray (and CBS too) believe we are all tuned in to watch him turn this classic event into a circus.

Why he receives so much TV coverage in Pebble Beach is beyond me. To this golfer, the man is an annoying distraction and is definitely out of bounds.
