Kennedy Proves It’s Best in West Valley, 57-48

Waking Bailey scored 16 points and Michael Calloway had 11 points and eight rebounds for Kennedy High, which clinched the West Valley League title with a 57-48 victory over Taft Wednesday in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Brandyn Fisher had 27 points and 11 rebounds and Amir Bar-Netzer added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Toreadors (13-9, 4-5).

Clayton Powdrill scored 10 points for Kennedy (12-9, 7-2).

Birmingham 50, Granada Hills 47--Raymond Kizzee had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Emmanuel Evans had nine points and 10 rebounds for the Braves (17-6, 8-1), who clinched the North Valley League title in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Birmingham.

Desmond Williams had 16 points and Leon Pimky added 13 for Granada Hills (13-10, 5-4).

Cleveland 62, Chatsworth 57--Donald Holt and Mike Schultz each scored 24 points and the Cavaliers (18-6, 6-3) held off the Chancellors (7-13, 0-9).

Canoga Park 72, Grant 63--The Hunters finished with a 9-0 run in the final 1:25 of a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Grant.

Carloes Harper scored 30 points for Canoga Park (14-10, 6-3) and Jeff Turner had 19, including 11 in the fourth quarter. Turner also had 18 rebounds.

Gilbert Arenas scored 21 points for Grant (7-14, 4-5).

Poly 56, Van Nuys 54--James Word had 13 points for the Parrots (17-6, 8-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Poly.

Jorge Gurrola scored 14 for Van Nuys.

Bell-Jeff 92, St. Genevieve 50--Ruben Douglas scored 25 points for the Guards, who rolled to a 25-0 lead and clinched their second consecutive Santa Fe League title at Bell-Jeff.

Kent Dennis added 17 points, Dominic Domingo had 15 and Mike West scored 13 for Bell-Jeff (19-6, 11-0), which won its 12th consecutive game.

Marcos Flores added 10 rebounds, six assists and six steals for Bell-Jeff.

Harvard-Westlake 92, Notre Dame 49--Jason Collins had 26 points and 16 rebounds, and Jarron Collins added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Wolverines in a Mission League game at Notre Dame.

Rico Cabrera had 15 points and Victor Munoz made 10 steals for Harvard-Westlake (27-1, 11-0), the No. 1-ranked team in the region by The Times.

Jorge Piedra and Chris Williams each had 10 points for Notre Dame (14-12, 4-7).

Chaminade 51, Loyola 47--Justin Stewart scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Scott Long had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles (18-6, 9-2) in a Mission League game at Loyola.

Simi Valley 73, Camarillo 55--Brett Michel scored 24 points and Rafael Berumen added 23 points and 13 rebounds for the Pioneers (20-3, 10-3) in a Marmonte League game at Simi Valley.

Newbury Park 63, Westlake 60--Newbury Park had a 17-0 run in the third quarter of a Marmonte League game at Westlake.

Jim Newton of Newbury Park (16-8, 10-3), who left with a sprained ankle in the first half, returned to score seven of his 15 points in the third quarter.

Jake Stewart, who scored 13 points for Westlake (11-13, 4-9), missed a three-point shot at the buzzer.

Oak Park 49, Fillmore 40--Randy Gastwirt had 19 points for the Eagles (17-6, 7-0), who clinched a fourth consecutive Tri-Valley League title at Fillmore.

Ventura 59, Santa Barbara 54--Christian Gallagher scored 17 points in a Channel League game for the Cougars (13-10, 7-6).

Justin McIver had 21 points for Santa Barbara (12-13, 7-6).

North Hollywood 67, Van Nuys 46--The Huskies (20-3, 9-0) clinched their seventh consecutive Mid-Valley League title while notching their 46th consecutive league victory in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Van Nuys.

Grant 53, Monroe 32--Nakeisha Perkins scored 18 points and had 17 rebounds for the Lancers (16-7, 7-2) in a Valley Pac-8 game at Monroe.

Poly 54, Sylmar 32--Ciara Jeffries scored 23 points for the Parrots (11-8, 8-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Sylmar (2-10, 2-7).

Reseda 54, Canoga Park 15--Latisha Green had 21 points and eight steals, and Stacey Meyer had 10 points for the Regents (5-10, 3-6) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Canoga Park.

Kennedy 61, El Camino Real 15--Vanessa Dunn scored 20 points for the Golden Cougars (21-3, 9-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Kennedy that was played with a running clock in the second half.

El Camino Real (13-2, 7-2), which played without Aja Diamond, has two losses this season, both to Kennedy.

Chatsworth 62, Taft 37--Patricia Nuno scored 14 points and had 11 assists for the Chancellors (11-12, 4-5) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Chatsworth.
