In another Big West Conference women’s basketball game:

Cal State Fullerton 92, Long Beach State 80--Host Fullerton, which had three players score 20 or more, beat Long Beach for the first time since 1991. Kristen Sigg had 27 points and five rebounds, Andrea Thieme had 20 points and eight assists and Justine McMahan had 20 points for Fullerton (10-12, 5-6), in a three-way tie for third place. The top four teams from the Western Division advance to the Big West Tournament in Reno.

Toby Metoyer had 21 points and 11 rebounds and Kesha Wade had 16 points and eight rebounds for Long Beach State (8-14, 5-6).

In a nonconference baseball game:

California 6, Long Beach State 4--Host Long Beach State had a run in and the tying runs on base in the ninth but failed to get another run.

Jason Madison had a run-scoring single to cut the Cal lead to 6-4 and gave Long Beach State runners on first and second with one out. But designated hitter Toby Sanchez, who hits in the No. 4 spot, took a called third strike and Izzy Gonzalez grounded out to end the game.

Cal’s first three batters combined for eight hits, three runs batted in and scored all six runs. Brian Oliver, who hits third, had a two-run triple in the first for Cal (6-6). The teams conclude the four-game series at 1:05 p.m. today.
