A man in his mid-30s was hospitalized in stable condition after he ducked under a crossing gate and was hit by a southbound Blue Line train in Watts on Monday night, according to police.

The pedestrian, whose identity was not released, suffered a six-inch cut on his head and a possible broken wrist and was being treated at Martin Luther King Jr. / Drew Medical Center, authorities said.

He apparently was trying to run across the tracks as the commuter train approached 103rd Street and South Grandee Avenue about 7:45 p.m. “It appears that he is going to live,” a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said. “And he is probably going to learn a lesson not to beat a train.”
