Antelope Valley Stifles Buena

Relentless defense and balanced scoring enabled Antelope Valley High to defeat Buena, 63-39, Friday night in a first-round Southern Section Division I-A playoff game at Antelope Valley.

Senior forward Le’Tre Kelly had 17 points and 13 rebounds and Ziaire Williams added 16 points for the Antelopes (21-6), ranked second in the region by The Times.

Senior guard Tony Walker had 10 points and seven assists for Antelope Valley, which held Buena to 11 points in the first half.

Forward Ian Boys scored 10 for the Bulldogs (12-13).

In another Division I-A game:

Hart 67, Warren 35--Cory Johnson made six three-point baskets and scored a career-high 33 points for the Indians (22-5) at Hart.

Johnson, a forward averaging 15.7 points, was the only player who scored in double figures.

Hart played stifling defense, holding Warren (16-10) to 20 points in the first half and five in the third quarter.

DIVISION I-AA

Santa Monica 47, Palmdale 29--Kevin Miller scored seven points for host Palmdale (16-9).

Santa Monica (12-11) was led by Dylen Smith with 13 points.

Channel Islands 77, Leuzinger 65--Bernabe Simon scored 22 points to lead the Raiders (20-5) over the Olympians (16-10), the second-place team from the Bay League, at Channel Islands.

The score was tied, 34-34, at halftime, but Channel Islands outscored Leuzinger by six in the third quarter and six in the fourth.

Point guard O.J. Thomas had 19 points and shooting guard Charles Merricks had 18 for the Raiders.

DIVISION II-AA

Burbank 61, Santa Barbara 58--Guard Juni Williams made a jump shot with one minute to play in overtime and Steve Silveria clinched it with two free throws with 20 seconds remaining for Burbank (14-10).

Silveria made all 10 of his free throws and Burbank made 16 of 19. Bobby Moore scored eight of his 10 points in the fourth quarter for the Bulldogs.

Compton 83, Valencia 51--Jeff Trepagnier scored 30 points to lead the Moore League champion Tartar Lions (22-5) over the Vikings (14-11) at Compton.

Righetti 65, Ventura 62--The Cougars (14-12), the third-place team from the Channel League fell to host Righetti (15-9), the second-place team from the Northern League.

DIVISION II-A

Newbury Park 85, Burroughs 50--Junior forward Daniel Bobik had 21 points and senior guard Mike Bowers added 20 points, seven assists and six steals for the Panthers (18-8) at Newbury Park.

Fifth-ranked Newbury Park, the Marmonte League co-champion, took a 49-23 halftime lead and extended it to 71-34 after three quarters.

Guard Juan Zavala scored 16 for Burroughs (14-13).

Moorpark 60, Agoura 52--Kevin Lawrence scored eight of his 18 points in the third quarter to help the Musketeers (18-10) rally from a six-point halftime deficit and beat the Chargers (10-13) at Moorpark.

Lawrence had seven rebounds.

DIVISION III-AA

Dos Pueblos 69, Calabasas 51--Ryan Coleman scored 14 points but the Coyotes (13-13) fell against host Dos Pueblos (19-8), the Channel League champion.

Calabasas made only 18 of 48 shots from the field.

Dylan Mooney scored 28 for Dos Pueblos.

DIVISION III-A

Chaminade 62, Bishop Montgomery 60--Justin Stewart’s tipin with one second to play gave the Eagles a victory at Bishop Montgomery.

Stewart put in Cayce Cook’s missed shot after Marvin Perez of Bishop Montgomery hit a three-point shot with 30 seconds left to tie the score, 60-60.

Stewart finished with 12 points. Junior forward Scott Long led Chaminade (18-8) with 20 points.

Solomon Hughes led Bishop Montgomery (21-5) with 22 points. Perez added 16.

Harvard-Westlake 83, Northview 31--Jason Collins scored 13 of his 15 points in the first half, and Marc Bretter made four three-point baskets in the first half for the top-seeded Wolverines (29-1), who raced to a 50-9 halftime lead at Harvard-Westlake.

Bretter finished with 15 points--all on three-point shots--and Collins had 13 rebounds.

DIVISION IV-AA

Oak Park 62, Crespi 46--Randy Gastwirt had 24 points to lead the Eagles (19-6) at Oak Park.

Rob Turner led Crespi (10-16) with 11 points.

St. Paul 78, Paraclete 66--Josh Foster scored 15 points and Travis Jackson added 13 for the host Spirits (14-9), who blew a 37-25 halftime lead after the Swordsmen (14-13) employed a full-court press.

Dondy Cosby scored 18 points for St. Paul and Nick Padilla had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

DIVISION IV-A

Crossroads 104, Village Christian 35--All-American guard Baron Davis had 18 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals in 10 minutes of play to lead the defending-champion Roadrunners (24-3) at West L.A. College. Cash Warren led Crossroads with 23 points.

Paul Tate had 12 points for the Crusaders (11-14).

Bell-Jeff 78, Mojave 62--After falling behind, 10-0, the host Guards (21-6) switched from a zone to a man-to-man press and finished the first quarter with a 16-8 run.

Ruben Douglas finished with 35 points and four blocks to lead Bell-Jeff. Kent Dennis added 19 points, six assists and six steals, and Mike West contributed 13 points and nine rebounds. Kenny Johnson led Mojave (15-8) with 16 points, and Jason Battle and Tarik Bey each scored 15.

L.A. Baptist 81, St. Monica 45--David Plaxen had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Jermaine Sweet had 17 points and eight assists for the Knights (23-2) at L.A. Baptist.

Santa Maria St. Joseph 70, St. Bonaventure 48--Jake DeGennaro scored 14 points and Gabe Gallagher added for St. Bonaventure (9-15) at St. Joseph.

Matt Kova scored 17 for St. Joseph (15-10), the Los Padres League champion.

DIVISION V-AA

Montclair Prep 81, Boron 46--Darin Brock had 24 points and 12 rebounds for the Mounties (18-6) at Montclair Prep.

Bishop Diego 70, Holy Martyrs 43--Marcus Madrigal scored 16 points to lead the Cardinals (16-8) at Bishop Diego.

DIVISION V-A

Cornerstone Christian 48, Grace Brethren 41--Steve Carter had 30 points and nine steals for the fourth-seeded Eagles (14-8) at Cornerstone Christian.

Pilgrim 75, Santa Clarita Christian 60--Jeret Black scored 24 points and Brandon Moore added 16 for host Pilgrim (15-4). Andrew Duncan led Santa Clarita Christian (11-10) with 18 points.
